Stalactites and stalagmites found in caves are an impressive feature of nature but they take a long time to form. Let’s speed up the process by making our own stalactites and stalagmites!

Stalactites grow very slowly and to observe their growth would take thousands of years. The purpose of this experiment is to observe how the stalactites grow, how fast they grow in 7 days, and what shape they will form into.

The hypothesis is that over the course of 7 days, the stalactite will grow to about 2 1/2 centimeters. It will also form into a downward tapering spiral shape

We did some experiments with warm water and others with cold water. Hugo, Laura, Manuel, Petra and Samuel think that the experiments with warm water will get better results. We’ll find out soon!
